What Do I Teach?

My unique reading program contains the five major components of reading:

Phonemic Awareness

The knowledge that spoken words can be broken apart into smaller segments of sound known as phonemes.

Fluency

The ability to recognize words easily, read with greater speed, accuracy, and expression, and better understand what is read. 

Comprehension

The ability to process text, understand its meaning, and to integrate with what the reader already knows.

Phonics

The knowledge that letters of the alphabet represent phonemes and that these sounds are blended together to form written words.

Vocabulary
